Local Tips for Wedding Guests – Amman, Jordan

Welcome to Amman! We’re so excited to celebrate with you. To help you make the most of your stay, here are some local tips, favorites, and must-knows:

🕌 Dress Modestly (but Comfortably):

Amman is stylish but conservative—think long skirts, pants, and covered shoulders in public or religious areas. Casual chic is great for cafes and restaurants!

💸 Cash & Cards:

Most places accept credit cards, but carry some Jordanian Dinar (JOD) for taxis, markets, or smaller shops. ATMs are widely available.

🚕 Getting Around:

Use Careem or Uber (yes, it works here!) for safe, air-conditioned rides. Yellow taxis are common, but agree on a price or ask for the meter.

☕ Must-Try Coffee & Tea:

Order Arabic coffee (gahwa) for a cardamom-flavored kick, or try sweet mint tea like a local. Great cafés include Rumi, Blue Fig, and Wild Jordan.

🛍️ Souvenirs to Look For:

Dead Sea skincare products

Hand-painted ceramics

Olive wood crafts

Traditional Jordanian scarves (keffiyeh)

🍽️ Local Food Faves:

Don’t leave without trying:

Mansaf (Jordan’s national dish)

Falafel at Al Quds or Hashem

Kunafa (warm cheese pastry) at Habibah Sweets

📍 Sights Near the City:

Amman Citadel – sweeping city views and Roman ruins

Roman Theater – still used for shows!

Rainbow Street – perfect for strolling, souvenirs, and ice cream

Jerash – a short drive to amazing Roman ruins

🧼 Tipping Etiquette:

Tipping is customary—around 10% at restaurants and a small tip for hotel staff or drivers is appreciated.

📱 Stay Connected:

SIM cards are easy to buy at the airport or malls. Free Wi-Fi is available at most hotels and cafés.

🕰️ Local Time Zone:

Jordan is on GMT+3 (no daylight savings). Plan accordingly if you're coordinating with friends back home!

📞 Emergency Numbers:

Tourist Police: (+962) 6 460 4595

General Emergency: 911
